Stiftung KunstfondsMasquerades of Research: Part II (30 min 2022) is the final instalment of the first fictional biography of queer sociologist Laud Humphreys (USA 1930 - 1988). Starring Mark O’Halloran as Humphreys, the film focuses on Humphreys’ infamous PhD study of public toilets where men from a variety of backgrounds met for sex (Tearoom Trade). Part I (30mins 2020) is a moral biography of Humphreys, exploring the deeper social impetus behind his pioneering and ethically controversial field research in the book Tearoom Trade 1970. Whereas Part I dealt with the impetus behind Humphreys research in a pre-Stonewall and pre-Watergate society, Part II begins in Los Angeles in 1975 when Tearoom Trade is about to be republished in a post-Stonewall and post-Watergate USA.

SIMILE [of Foreign Lands and People] (2021)
video installation • 8:43 min
(exhibition photos © Estefania Landesmann)video installation
concept, piano, editing: Dominique Hurth
dop: Francy Fabritz
commissioned by: Sonja LauIn the video installation "Simile (von fremden Ländern und Menschen)", Dominique Hurth rehearses the first piece from Robert Schumann's Scenes from Childhood, an album of 15 short piano pieces, that the artist played herself as a child. Despite its title, the piece was not meant originally for children, but for grown-ups to remember (moments of) their childhood. The title refers to the score's direction „ped. simile“, where the player is meant to use the pedal the same way as it was previously directed, throughout the entire piece. The camera follows the line of the music and unfolds the atmosphere of a children's room with several left-overs of playful situations, all ready to rehearse or perform in the eyes of others.
